Three weeks had passed since the Tigers’ last game against the Swans, which ended in blowout, and on this fine Saturday they would be welcoming the local rivals from Horsens Stallions. It was top against bottom, but nothing would mean more for the Stallions than to steal points from the Tigers. And traditionally this is a matchup that has always been somewhat close. A question arose whether the Tigers offense would be able repeat the same high pace and intensity they were able to show three weeks ago, as the summer and for a lot of the players from Århus; exams had been keeping people from practice.
About 35 players had suited up to play for the Tigers, while the Stallions seemed understaffed with just short of 22 players. Tigers won the toss but elected to defer, while the Stallions, not surprisingly decided to return. Their offense went three-and-out. The Tigers offense steamrolled down the field, starting at their own 30 yard line, and after five first downs, QB Mathias Lilhauge were able to run the ball in for the first six points, but the EP was no good. On the Stallions next possession they were once again stopped short of the first down, but a clever decision, and an unfocused Tigers defense, ended in two defensive offsides and three new downs for the Stallions, but that however didn’t help them much. On the Tigers next possession, they continued moving the ball well. A long ball from Mathias Lilhauge to WR Marc Sørensen put the ball on the 5 yard line, and two downs later after a holding penalty, RB Lasse Schriver ran the ball in for the second TD of the day. The EP was no good. The Stallions next possession ended in a pick by CB Mikkel Winther, shortly into the second quarter and the Tigers offense used the opportunity to put another six points on the board when RB Thorbjørn Nielsen ran into the endzone untouched from 15 yards out. This time the EP was good. The next two possessions ended in a turnover on downs and a touchback when the ball was fumbled out the sideline of the endzone. The Stallions still did not manage to put points on the board, in fact they had a hard time producing first downs. Late in the second quarter returner/safety/RB/LB Anders Høgh took a punt back for a fourth Tigers TD. The EP was good. And by halftime the score was 26-0
The Tigers returned the ball to the 40 yard line on the opening kickoff of the second half. From there the offense picked up their game, after two sloppy performances in the second quarter. Lasse Schriver ran the ball in for his second TD of the day, fifth of the day, and put the score at 31-0. On their next possession, WR Brian Woodward took the ball in from 20 yards out, on a screen play, and put the score at 38-0. On their next possession, RB Anders Høgh ran the ball in from seven yards out, and shortly into the fourth quarter, RB Sune Johansen, had 3 carries from the Tigers 35 yard line, which ended in a final TD that ended the game 51-0. For two Tigers players this game would be their last. CB Jens Lunde, third year player on the Tigers and a former golddigger, who’s a med-student from Århus University, will be moving to Copenhagen to finish his studies, and RB/DB Anders Høgh a long time Junior player and second year senior will also be moving the CPH to start his studies. We wish them both all the best. The Tigers would like to dedicate this victory to “Champ”, a 14 year old American boy who’s fighting brain cancer. Fight on Champ! Game MVP: Anders Høgh
